The CANTICORUM women's choir from Havířov consists of 27 regular members and a piano player. Beginnings of the choir date back to 2007 under the shelter of the Havířov city culture center. The choir's founder and choirmaster is Vítězslav Soukup, who has long-term experience both with religious and secular music. In 2010 he was rewarded for his work by the Havířov city mayor.
The choir's repertoire is rich and varied, consisting mainly of four-voiced compositions from classical composers ranging from the medieval times to contemporary music, African spirituals sung in English, spiritual music in Latin, movie compositions and traditional folk songs. Many of the compositions include a piano or organ accompaniment, but the true quality of a choir can be heard during a capella compositions - and so Canticorum's repertoire includes them, too.
Canticorum performs at art previews, parades and musical contests at a municipal, country and even international level. The choir also arranges its own concerts, where other neighbouring choirs' participation is most welcome. Canticorum has managed a significant achievement at the 2009 year of the international contest "Rybnicka Jesien Chóralna", where the choir advanced into the top 5 choirs, who then performed during a ceremonial evening for the contest laureates. In November of the same year Canticorum also attended Spotkanie Śpiewaczym Chórów Parafialnych Śląska Cieszyńskiego "Cantate Domino 2009". In 2011 the choir got a silver diploma and an award for the best interpretation of a folk song in the international choir festival Gaude Cantem in Bielsko-Biala in Poland. In the Choir Art Festival in Jihlava 2012 the choir got a silver diploma.
Our rehearsals take place each Tuesday at 17:30 in the auditorium of Kulturní dům Petra Bezruče in Havířov. We wish to not only represent our city, but above all bring other people peace of mind and the pleasure of choir music.
You are welcome to take a look at our rehearsals and sing with us. |
